Nationwide, he has managed successful execution of work at hospitals, airports, occupied residential, big box retail, landmark high-rise towers, and historical restoration.

A native Minnesotan, Mike grew up in a Twin Cities suburb, attended high school in St. Paul, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John's University in 2004. Moving into the professional world, he quickly discovered his place was on a rooftop, and not in a cubicle.

History

Early on a sunny Saturday morning in the mid 1980s, Michael Anthony Fastner emerged onto the roof of a commercial building in St.Paul, MN. A steady and uniform ripping sound echoed from his feet as he made his way across fresh roofing material, the still warm asphalt gripping the soles of his shoes. The sun cut through morning haze and bounced off his mirrored aviator lenses. Reaching a group of journeymen situated around a stack of insulation, he stopped. The foreman, with only a hint of a smile on his face, glanced well above the mirrored lenses and addressed the 4-year-old boy on Mike’s shoulders. “Well? What do you think, Buddy? How does it look?”

It would be years before Michael Paul Fastner returned to the job site. First, as a laborer. Then, a design intern. And eventually, as a building envelope consultant at a trusted firm. Throughout this forward trajectory, Michael Paul carried with him the values his father embodied and passed along as a roadmap for success in all of life’s “projects”. Set a high of standard, and always perform to it. Be accountable for all that you say and do. Always keep your word. The only way to gain trust is through honesty.

Michael Anthony Fastner, affectionately dubbed “Quez” by his wife Virginia’s extended family, died January 2018. He left behind a legacy of hard work, accountability, honesty, and integrity. On the shoulders of his father, Michael Paul formed Quez Consulting to carry on that legacy.
